How often should car headlight bulbs be replaced? 5 years? 10 years?

How long should a car headlight bulb last?

Car headlights, are responsible for lighting the car at night. It can be said that headlights are equivalent to the eyes of the car. The "soul" of the headlight is its bulb, and its performance will affect the effect of nighttime lighting and is directly related to driving safety.

According to the different light-emitting principles, headlight bulbs can be divided into several types, such as vacuum lamps, halogen lamps, xenon lamps and LEDs. Vacuum lamps and halogen lamps are cheap and widely used, but their lifespan is short, generally a few hundred hours. Xenon lamps can last 2,500 to 3,000 hours and have better lighting effects, but they are more expensive. Of course, no matter which type of bulb, the basic maintenance knowledge is similar.

Just like the oil filter needs to be replaced during regular maintenance, the headlight bulbs also need to be replaced regularly. Generally speaking, the brightness of the headlight bulbs will decrease every 50,000 kilometers or about 2 years. At this time, it is best to go to the Automobile Sales Service Shop for inspection. If the brightness is indeed insufficient, it is recommended to replace the bulbs. It is recommended to replace both sides at the same time to avoid different brightness on both sides. I wasted time during the annual inspection because I did not replace the bulb in time after the brightness decreased.

Another reason for the brightness of the headlights to be reduced is that the lampshade is aged due to environmental influences, which can also reduce the brightness of the headlights to more than 50%. Dirty and aged lampshades can also make the light blurry and cause dizziness. Therefore, aging lampshades should be replaced in a timely manner.

  1. When replacing a bulb, the more expensive it is, the better. You should choose a model that suits your car model. In addition, the modification of xenon lamps has strict requirements on the lighting system circuit, but the current xenon modification technology is quite mature and can also be modified and upgraded according to personal needs.
  2. Low-quality bulbs have a short lifespan and cannot guarantee stable quality. Secondly, high-quality bulbs have good light distribution and high brightness, while low-quality bulbs are insufficiently bright, poorly focused, and have a short range. When overtaking, they will cause visual illusions to the driver and are prone to accidents. In addition, low-quality lamps are not tightly sealed, and water easily enters them during rainy days or car washing, which will cause fog in the lamps. In severe cases, it will cause a short circuit and fire. Therefore, when modifying the headlights by yourself or replacing them due to damage, do not consider low-quality bulbs.
  3. It is best for car owners not to adjust the lights by themselves, especially for high-end cars. Some vehicles have headlights with follow-up steering functions, so do not try to adjust them by yourself.
